HKSAR Government Issues First Tokenized Green Bond

On February 16, 2023, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China successfully offered HK$800 million of tokenized green bonds. This is the first tokenized green bond issued by a government in the world and the first tokenized bond governed by Hong Kong law.

 

BOCHK, Crédit Agricole CIB, Goldman Sachs, HSBC Hong Kong as joint global coordinating bank, joint lead bank and joint book-running bank for the offering.

 

Goldman Sachs as its platform provider.

 

BOCHK, HSBC as its custodian bank.

 

The HKMA CMU is the clearing and settlement system and cash token manager.
